As an author of twenty-something erotic novels and novellas, I know a little about the self-publishing game. While certainly not a marketing genius, I am an engineer by training and taught to study options before jumping in.
For those who’ve tried the traditional publishing route, you quickly realize that the odds are stacked against you. Sort of like when you figure out that being 5-foot-6, professional basketball is not a likely option for you.
SmashWords has added a new wrinkle to authors who publish erotica, requiring that they classify their smut as to whether it contains certain topics that some consider taboo. While we know that SmashWords is pretty forgiving and will pretty much publish anything, they also distribute to a number of publishers who are not so forgiving.
The nice thing about SmashWords is that when you publish a book, it gets automatically republished by a number of other publishers such as B&N, Kobo, iBooks (Apple), and others if the book is classified as Premium.

B.T.W. for whatever reason, Apple decided to no-bill Stripper or Nurse? as it violated some part of their decency clause! Now while I write stroke stories with explicit sex, I try to be careful and not push the line too much so that the publishers don’t throw them under the bus.
Finally, Stripper or Nurse? can be purchased as something that you can hold (well except for that other thing). No longer do you have to balance your laptop on your knees as you rub one out. 🙂
It’s been a long and winding road as one band used to say and my experience in publishing this tome certainly reflected that. While I don’t want to recommend that you do something else with your spare time, it was a learning experience as my Mother used to tell me.
All jokes aside, I had a lot of fun creating a paperback version of my latest smut story and now am trying to decide which of my other stories to immortalize on paper and help to kill a few trees.

Stripper or Nurse? is in the recovery room at last! I’m almost finished with my first print book saga. I never realized what a pain in the rear printing a book could be. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel and hopefully, it’s not an oncoming train!
Last week I ordered my proof copy and just assumed that it would be in my hands within a few days. Finally, after over a week it showed up and naturally I had screwed up!
Somehow I got a blank page inserted which made each chapter start on the left side of the book. Chapters should always start on the right side of the paper and not on the underside.

My Wife Is A Porn Star (24,000 Words) is a kinky story about a guy, who comes home to an empty house as his wife is out partying with the girls. Figuring that this would be a good time to watch some porn on his computer, he grabs a beer and picks out a new video to watch that looks pretty hot.
He’s sitting there, playing with himself, while watching these two girls take care of everyone on the set. In the last scene, he finally gets a good look at the girl’s faces and realizes that he’s just jerked off to his wife and his best friend’s wife making a pornographic movie.
His revulsion quickly turns to excitement as he realizes that they’ve been doing this for a while.
