COVID-19 has changed all our lives this past year and not for the better. Hopefully, next year will bring us vaccines and improve our lives. Foxy and I live in Las Vegas, which up until now was one of the party capitals of the world.

Before moving to Vegas, we’d visit Sin City four or five times a year as we enjoyed the non-stop 24x7x365 attitude of the town. I grew up in East Texas, where everything closed when the sun went down, and the only thing open was the 7-11.

According to the news, the first shipments of the vaccine will be available tomorrow and start to shine some light on the darkness, which has befallen the world. It got me to thinking about the contrast between then and now. One of the stories I’ve written, Seduced by the Dark Side, contrasted a similar situation.

“Seduced by the Dark Side” is a hard-core non-stop erotic romance novel about a small-town farm girl from Minnesota who moves to Las Vegas to experience the wilder side of life. HP3 Is Taking Off Like A Rocket

House Party 3 or HP3 was released a couple of days ago, and sales have really surprised me. This morning, it was #20 in Erotic Mysteries, #21 in Mystery Erotica, and only #35 in Lesbian Erotica. I guess all the fucking and sucking offended my lesbian readers!

Seriously, the House Party Series was started as an experiment to see if I could write stories that followed traditional guidelines as several fellow authors of smut have pointed out that a story needs conflict, resolution, and someone to hate.

As an engineer, I often struggled with the niceties in the world, such as which fork to use or how to pick your nose in public. We tend to be nerds, somewhat like Beavis and Butthead and duck, when social norms fly over our heads.

I decided with the original House Party that I would attempt to break the rut I was in and write in some conflict and resolution. I’m still trying to figure out who to hate, but I’m confident that it’ll come to me eventually.

Sunday Musings by Larry Archer

I’m sitting here this Sunday morning in my boxers watching Meet the Press and taking stock of what the hell’s going on in the world and our little niche of Sin City. United States COVID daily new cases are fixing to top 80,000/day and deaths somewhere north of 1,000/day.

Life, as we know it, has ground to a halt. For those of us who like to throw our house keys in a bowl, those days are a dim memory and likely to be the same for probably the next six months to a year.

Swinging is a social event for us, and while the sex is great, the friendship among partiers is still the best thing. I guess when you’re sleeping with your friends, it tends to bolster the closeness you share with others.

As an engineer, we as a group tend to be introverts, and this pandemic hasn’t overly affected me. My wife, on the other hand, is an A-type who feeds on interaction with others. Foxy is a social-butterfly and flits from flower to flower, getting a taste of nectar then moving on to the next shiny object.

Staying Sane During an Epidemic

I can understand mental health issues better now that we’ve been locked down for eight months or so due to COVID-19. As an engineer, I’m somewhat of an introvert, as most of us are. My wife is an A-type and feeds on interaction with others.

The pandemic has meant no parties, no poker, and no casinos to supply her need for excitement and entertainment, but honestly, she has faired better than I hoped. I was concerned that this might be too much for Foxy, but she has surprised me with her resilience.

Avoiding the Amazon Dungeon

If you write erotica as I do, one of the first things you learn is to avoid Amazon’s Dungeon. Amazon’s censors seem to delight in throwing me under the bus, even when I’ve been careful and followed all the rules.

One of the first stories I published was Caught Screwing Mom’s Daughter. Amazon immediately classified it as “Adult,” which in their parlance means that the writer has gotten his/her knuckles slapped with the ruler. While tiptoeing up to the line, it doesn’t cross over, but Amazon was not a happy camper with the story.

Caught Screwing Mom’s Daughter is only available from SmashWords as Amazon not only threw it into the dungeon but “BLOCKED” it and in all caps! Unlike my wife, I didn’t go to a Catholic school, but she’s told me about nuns and their rulers.

Let’s face it, people who write smut always want to bend the rules and often come close to skirting the edges of acceptable. I’ve learned my lesson while I’ve had a couple of stories that were initially classified as “Adult,” most of my stuff is acceptable to Amazon’s censors. Acceptable is probably not the right word, and tolerable would be better.
