Porn is Bad, Guns are Good!

The Florida legislature just voted that porn is a health hazard but refused to discuss gun control legislation? WTF?

As a self-proclaimed semi-gun nut from Texas, I question that “Porn” is bad for you but fully agree that “Guns” will hurt you. I believe in the second amendment but don’t understand why our elected officials don’t get their collective heads out of their asses and do something about school violence? But since it’s apparently okay to beat your wife, I guess I can see their point.

I’m not an owner of any AR style weapon but many of my friends own them. Our politicians have refused to do even simple things like use information on mentally challenged individuals to refuse purchase of long guns like the AR-15 to people who are not competent to own them.

Certainly, making it harder for nut jobs to get a gun will not stop gun violence but maybe it will start the process. Keeping porn out of the hands of horny people may cut down on wrist injuries but I don’t think they are going to mow down school kids while they are sitting on a park bench, in their raincoat, whacking off.

It’s my opinion that those who preach about the Second Amendment don’t understand its original intent. To date, every gun control measure that has been enacted has utterly failed to make a difference and more so when people who are legally able to obtain guns find reason to walk into a school or other pubic area and start killing people – and because they have unsolvable issues themselves. And because the Second Amendment is being misinterpreted, we can’t outlaw guns or limit their possession to law enforcement and the military.

But porn is a health hazard? I’m thinking that watching people fucking on a screen is a lot less of a health hazard that getting a 9mm hole in your head and more so when this can happen and you’re minding your own damned business. Methinks the government in Florida – and, really, in almost every state, has their priorities wrong and by failing to enact even stricter gun control laws, they are woefully failing in their sworn oath to protect the people who put them into office in the first place; they’d rather outlaw porn than to piss off the NRA and that make no sense at all…

I hear you kdaddy and gun control for me is a struggle. From where I come from, you get a gun about the time you’re old enough to stand up. I grew up on a farm and spent my younger years with a single shot 22 and a hound dog in the woods but I never had an itch to shoot anyone. My Dad won’t leave the house unless he enough firepower to start a small war in his pickup. I guess he’s always worried about Mexico coming to take Texas back or something.

But what gets into people to take an AR-15 and just shoot innocent people? I have a CC license and carry most of the time but it’s really just the screw loose nut jobs that we typically have to worry about. I have no problem restricting gun purchase to people with mental issues and for Nevada the waiting period doesn’t exist if you have a concealed carry permit.

Thanks as always for your insightful comments.

Larry, I cannot even begin to imagine why someone would want to do this other than they’re tired of their lives and if they’re gonna go out, they’re gonna try to take as many people as they can with them before committing suicide by cop.

I learned to shoot at a young age as well; further training in the military came along and, yeah, when the enemy is shooting at you, you damned well better shoot back. But what we’re seeing these days? Seems like more and more, the answer to “solving” ones problems is to shoot anyone standing in front of you which doesn’t speak well about mental health care and glaring exposes a serious flaw in gun control methodology, i.e., ya might pass a criminal background check… but you can’t check someone’s sanity at any point before a gun is purchased or after the fact. Oh, yeah, and we’re seeing that in some cases, the person doing the shooting might not be the one who legally purchased the weapons, aren’t we? Some gun owners probably have to get very serious about keeping their weapons secure and away from anyone who might get their hands on them to do crazy shit… but if you can trust your family with the combination to your gun safe, who can you trust?
