As I sit here gazing at the almost life-size image of my naked wife sprawled across three monitors, I’m reminded what a lucky guy I am to have such a fox for a partner. Not completely nude, but thigh-high socks and a thong don’t hide much.
This image is one of my favorites from the thousands of pictures I have of her. If you size the length x width ratio correctly, Windows will spread your image across all the monitors rather than three copies of the same image.
This makes for a very distracting image, but it is nice to look at. I’ve thought about putting up a buck-naked image of Foxy, but it might be inappropriate for the occasional guest in my office. I run four HP workstations using a KVM switch to feed my three 32-inch monitors and keyboard. A KVM switch takes the keyboard-video-mouse signals from each computer and routes them to a single set of displays, keyboard, and rodent. By pressing a selection switch, I can flip between computers.
Why do I have four computers under my desk? That’s what everyone asks. I’m a photographer, engineer, and programmer, in addition to writing erotic stories. Each of these activities requires different software and computer setups. Configuring each workstation for specific tasks makes the job easier. Of course, now I have four systems to keep updated, but nothing is free.
Setting up different desktop images makes it easier to keep track of what computer is currently selected. My “writing” computer is configured with desktop publishing, word processing, and graphics software.
If you’ve considered the possibility of having a version of Fifty Shades of Grey inside you, becoming an author is not that hard. I’ve proved that fact to myself. If you stick to electronic versions, basically all you need is a word processor. Everyone has Word or Google Docs, but I’d recommend Scrivener. Scrivener is inexpensive, costing about $60 for Windows or Mac versions. They have a package price for both, so I jumped on the deal.
The nice thing about Scrivener is that the program allows the writer to jump between chapters or notes instantly without losing your place. It interfaces with DropBox, so you can seamlessly work on the same story on your desktop and laptop. My desktop machine is a Windows 11 computer, and my carry-around is an M1 MacBook Pro. When I have a few minutes to kill, I whip out my MacBook and work on a story. Then, when I get home, I can open the same story as the Windows and Mac file formats are identical.
For cover design, I use CorelDraw, which is used for graphic design of all types. The nice thing about Corel is that it can create precisely sized images, which is crucial to cover design if you start producing paperback books. The cover for a paperback is one long image encompassing the front, spine, and rear cover image. The spine width depends on the number of papers in the book. The printer requires an image of the exact size, which is difficult to produce if you don’t have the proper software. InkScape is a free, open-source alternative to CorelDraw that may suit your needs.
Amazon will convert your files to print, but I haven’t tried that process. I prefer to control everything myself and use QuarkXPress for paperback book formatting and output files. Scribus is a free, open-source program that is similar to QuarkXPress.
The bottom line is that an aspiring author can join other starving authors, but it is fun and rewarding. I write erotic stories but luckily have a “real” job to support myself. I make reasonably decent money writing smut stories and might one day attempt to do it full-time. The nice thing about writing is that a minimal investment is initially required, and it can be part-time to try it out. If it doesn’t work out for you, return to whatever you did before.
I’d also like to highlight Lisabet Sarai’s Charity Sunday as she asks for your help in a worthy cause. This Sunday, she’s supporting Mutual Aid Sudan, a grassroots charity recommended by Nicholas Kristof (NY Times) that helps ordinary Sudanese people survive. If you click the link below, Lisabet will donate for every comment you post.

I’m Larry Archer, and I write erotic stories for the huddled and yearning masses. Foxy and I are swingers in real life. I write about what we do and see, especially swingers, unicorns, Hotwives, and cuckolds. While the Lifestyle is not for everyone, it’s been fun for us. My smut is explicit and hardcore but with a somewhat plot. Larry Archer’s porn stories are generally positive and fun, as this reflects how enjoyable swinging has been to us. I publish at all the typical outlets if you want to check out my stories. Larry Archer’s erotic romance stories are available in electronic, paperback, or audiobook format.

I’m currently sitting behind my 17″ HP laptop. two Samsung tablets, a Steam Deck, an Asus “gaming” deck and somewhere close to me is my Surface Pro 9, my iPhone, and my iPad Pro 12.9 (6th generation). As you know, I’m a retired systems engineer and used to having multiple devices that do “specific” things – and I didn’t mention my HP desktop in the “computer room.”
Keeping four Windows computers updated is just a part of my daily routine…
I used to use WordPerfect to write but eventually switched to Word and if I wanted to publish, sure, I’d probably need and use the same software you’re using – but I’m not there yet.

As prolific a blogger as you are, I could envision many stories pouring out of your assortment of computers.
