The Death of Innocence – Coming Soon

The Death of Innocence – Larry Archer’s latest erotic novel is coming soon and has been an interesting story to write. As an author, I tend to play out a novel in my mind and write down what everyone does.

I’ve come to realize that as swingers in real life, our attitudes about sex and relationships do not jive with those of “normal” people. And that’s not a bad thing, either. Swingers almost never divorce which is an interesting topic in of itself. I’ve always felt that being in the lifestyle eliminates a primary reason for couples to split up.

For us, if we want to have an affair with someone, there is no need to sneak around and hang out in seedy motels. I just take her home with me and hope my wife will share her. After all, I was the one who found her! Seriously, it’s kind of cool to be able to talk about it and share selfies with your spouse. For us, screwing around is having sex and not an emotional involvement with someone outside the bonds of marriage.

Up until the House Party Series, I’ve tried to keep the fictional versions of Foxy & Larry pretty much true to the real-life versions. In House Party, I decided to let Foxy off her leash to do whatever I could imagine, and to be honest, it’s been a real blast. Foxy is not as thrilled at being made out as a complete slut, but it’s been fun for me.

I’ve come to realize that my wife may have a multiple personality disorder (dissociative identity disorder) when it comes to her sexual proclivities. She’s a Catholic schoolgirl one minute, and the next, she’s a Hustler playmate. Beyond never knowing who she is at any given moment, it has been an interesting ride.

For those not in the lifestyle, you would never leave with anyone except the one who brought you. For all the boundaries we cross without a single thought, swinging is about sex and nothing else. So in House Party, I decided to see what she would do when left to her own devices. They meet a new couple from L.A., and after partying with them, Foxy goes back to California, leaving the guy’s wife with Larry.

Now phrased a different way, it would be realistic that she might go with the couple for a visit before coming home but never leave her husband. With new couples, you tend to keep them at arm’s length until you know them better, as the lifestyle doesn’t always work out for everyone.

House Party, a four-book series (280,000 words) is about Foxy leaving Larry and moving to L.A. and becoming a porn star. Letting Foxy run amok was fun, but now I’m trying to patch everything up between Foxy and Larry. Foxy has not been especially pleased with how I’ve portrayed her fictional half as a bigger slut than usual, but hopefully, she’ll cut me some slack.

The Death of Innocence starts out as Sherry, a television news reporter, interviews him on a story about Larry and The Fox’s Den for Channel Twelve News. While shooting what’s called B-roll footage, they see men attempting to shoot students at a local elementary school. Foxy and Larry take on the homegrown terrorists in a gun battle to try and save the children.

When I started writing this story, the nation was in the midst of several school shootings, and although my stories focus on sexual activities, I felt compelled to protest the callous slaughter of our nation’s youth.

My family has lived in East Texas for generations, and I was always taught to protect the community. The killing of innocent children is abhorrent to me, and I can’t begin to understand the rationale behind killing kids, much less anyone else.

This story will hopefully bring Larry’s runaway bride home for good and exorcise the demons who have plagued her over the last half-dozen or so stories. The twenty-something novels involving the swinger couple, Foxy and Larry, have all been written in a generally continuous timeline, beginning with their humble beginnings in the Midwest and moving to Las Vegas.

Until the House Party series, Foxy and Larry behaved similarly to their actual counterparts, on which these erotic romance stories have been based. Twelve years ago, I started writing stories roughly based on our experiences as a swinger couple. As such, the fictional Foxy and Larry would not do things the real Foxy and Larry would not do.

As Foxy is off running amok, Larry is collecting girlfriends right and left. His current squeeze is a blonde television reporter, Sherry, who has moved in with him.

Foxy is beginning to realize that her side of the bed is being occupied and tries to move back home to Vegas. Her only problem is now she’s developed an addiction to sex partners and can’t seem to wean herself off the late-night booty calls she loves.

Foxy is struggling with her need for men and seeks help from a shrink but all they do is fuck. Then Larry meets a new dancer, Heather, a younger, taller version of Foxy. This terrifies Foxy, and as Larry says, The chickens have come home to roost. That’s somewhat the storyline until The Death of Innocence kicks off.

Keep in mind that the divorce rate of swingers is virtually nonexistent, and letting my wife off her leash is not something we would do. In fact, Foxy has been somewhat pissed at me for making her fictional half a full-blown slut. In the upcoming book, I hope to bring Foxy back into the fold, but since I don’t plan, I’m not sure how this will work out.

In The Death of Innocence, Foxy, Larry, and Sherry (Larry’s GF) are in his Suburban shooting a documentary on Larry’s strip club, The Fox’s Den. Driving past an elementary school, Foxy sees men with long guns outside the school who don’t appear to be police officers.

Larry stops the vehicle and moves to intercept them with his carry weapon. Foxy realizes that he doesn’t stand much of a chance with a semi-automatic pistol against AR-15s with 30-round magazines.

Foxy takes a Mossberg 500 tactical 12-ga shotgun from the back of the car and goes to help Larry. They end up shooting the gunmen and becoming heroes for saving the children. Several of the school kids were killed before Larry and Foxy could stop them, but they stopped what would have been a major bloodbath.

This is how the title, The Death of Innocence, came about. Part of the impetus for the story came from the school shootings we’ve had over the last couple of years, especially the one in Texas. I don’t understand where all of these wackadoodles came from but something needs to be done. I’m not holding my breath, and hopefully, the American people will come to their senses.

Now Foxy is having to deal with the fact she shot and killed a gunman with her shotgun. Even though she is a hero in everyone’s eyes, the fact she’s taken a life shakes her to the core. Piled over her other issues is almost enough to push her over the edge. Hopefully, The Death of Innocence will vanquish her demons and bring her back into the loving arms of her husband.

As an author, I’ve enjoyed writing erotica-themed novels in which I can discuss some of the things we’ve done after changing the names of the guilty to protect them. The Death of Innocence is currently at 40,000 words and should finish up at 45-50,000 words. The length of typical erotic stories is under 20,000 words. My stories are generally 50-100,000 words in size or the same category as a contemporary novel.

The lead picture of this post is my current cover image but I’m still trying to decide if I like it or not. The paperback version of the story will have a somewhat revised image due to the printing requirements. For example, below is the cover for the electronic version of The Shrink,  followed by the paperback cover. You’ll notice that when you do a paperback, the image is the back cover, spine, and front cover of the story. So, in one case I need a vertical and the other a landscape layout.

In closing, I hope your team makes it at the Super Bowl.
