A week, after I republished The Shrink to SmashWords after initially publishing it to Draft2Digital, the change in sales continued to show impressive results.

Today, 2-Nov-2023, seven of my books are listed in the first three pages of the Erotica | Action Adventure Best Seller lists. My House Party series is on the first page of the Box Set Best Seller list. House Party is also on the Top Series Starter’s list top page.

I’m seeing decent sales on Draft2Digital, but nothing like the change that appears to be initiated by publishing to SmashWords.

I’ve just recently passed 6,000 books sold through SmashWords, which is pretty cool. If you write erotica, SmashWords is a good choice for publishing your stories. I write primarily erotic romance stories with an emphasis on erotic.

SmashWords is a good place if you write edgier stuff that gets the censor’s shorts in a knot, as they will accept stuff that Amazon and Apple get freaked out by. The problem with pushing the limit is that your smut doesn’t get accepted into their Premium classification. Not being in the Premium category keeps the story away from Apple, which sells a big percentage of my erotica.

To my way of thinking, you have to decide if you are going to write mainstream erotica or niche erotica. I classify mainstream erotica as stories that are acceptable at major publishers such as Amazon, SmashWords, or Apple. Niche stories are generally kinkier and deal with topics that are not acceptable at Amazon or Apple.

Certainly, I’m not against a lot of the stuff seen on SmashWords or smaller sites, but I have decided to stick with more traditional porn that doesn’t get me banned. Having said that, I’d like to think that there is a lot of explicit action going on in Larry Archer’s smut. Often, you have to read an entire story to find the characters getting lucky, but the characters in Larry’s stories get lucky frequently and often. I would also like to think that there is a plot behind the people knocking boots.

Larry Archer’s erotic stories are typically long and often bigger than 50,000 words, with the larger ones around 100,000 words. My readers win out as I have a lot of problems typing The End, which means the stories are extra long.
