As a resident of Las Vegas, I’ve tried not to overreact to the recent carnage on the Las Vegas Strip recently when some apparent loon decided to murder over fifty people and injure hundreds more.

I feel a lot of people think of Las Vegas as one big party, drinking, dancing, and of course gambling. I’m as guilty as the next person for most of those evils except the gambling, which I leave to Wifey.

We may never learn why the shooter did it and it probably will not make the friends and relatives of the victims feel any better either but we need to try and learn from the experience and move forward.

Every time some atrocity like this occurs, things get worse for the 99.9% of the times that nothing happens. You may not realize it but airports used to be constructed such that it was typically a long wide building. The parking lot was on one side and the tarmac on the other.

You could, without a ticket, walk straight through the airport and stand behind a three-foot chainlink fence and watch the airplanes close enough to touch them. The gate didn’t have a lock and anyone could simply walk through the gate onto the area where planes were coming and going.

There were no x-ray machines, no scanners, no strip searches (darn), and no security besides maybe a retired cop. After all, why would you need those things because why would anyone in their right mind do something that would hurt another person?

Today if you tried to walk out on the runway, it might not be as pleasant an experience as it used to be.

People didn’t have to lock their doors at night, kids didn’t get shot in grade school, and cops didn’t shoot people they stopped for speeding. Has the world gone to hell in a handbasket? Maybe!

The best minds don’t seem to have an answer and I certainly don’t either but in the words of our hippy parents, “Peace Man.”

I was born and raised in Deep East Texas, another way of saying the sticks or redneck county where we were taught to respect others and that’s about all we can do today.

When that asshole cuts you off on the freeway, grit your teeth, and just take a breath. Take pleasure in the fact that he’s a jerk because his wife probably doesn’t suck his dick, much less swallow!

Try to recommit yourself to not being a jerk and maybe your wife will come around on the blowjobs or vice versa.
