While this post has nothing to do with smut or perverted activities, I feel amused that I’ve managed to keep Windows Technical Support on the line for almost 30 minutes before they hung up on me. LOL I even made them call me back twice because they thought they had a fish on the line.

If you haven’t had this call, then you’re lucky. I’ve averaged about 1 or 2 a month for the last couple of months. You get a call from someone whose accent is so strong, only another person from India could understand them. You are told that they are from Windows Technical Support and their server received a call from your computer that it was downloading a virus.

First of all, Microsoft never calls you for free and that should be your first clue. Then while I realize that the NSA is monitoring our every phone call and email, I don’t think our computers are constantly in contact with Microsoft. If you get this type of call, either hang up or if you have nothing better to do then see how long you can keep them on the phone by doing something different from what they’ve asked and reading information off the screen incorrectly. Just don’t give them anything like a credit card number or change anything on your computer.

If they want a credit card number then just make up one and when they try and run it, it will not pass then switch the numbers and tell them you read it wrong. This is always good for 5 minutes or so. Then after a couple of times tell them that your maxed out on your credit card and maybe that’s why it doesn’t go through.

From news stories I’ve read, one of their tactics is to get you to delete important files then when your computer is all screwed up then they will charge you to fix it. This is especially when it wasn’t broken in the first place.

Protecting your computer is pretty easy: (1) Always run anti-virus software and keep the definitions up to date. A lot of cable providers will give you free software. We use Cox and they give you McAfee for up to 5 or 6 computers. There are also a number of pretty good free anti-virus software packages out there. (2) Make sure that you have a firewall program. You typically get one bundled with Windows but I recommend the free version of ZoneAlarm. ZoneAlarm will stop programs from phoning home and possibly disclosing personal information.

Another thing is always use a router and don’t just connect your computer directly to the modem. A decent router has built in firewall and will further protect your computer(s) from the outside world. If it’s an wi-fi router then make sure you have encryption turned on. Check with the router manufacturer for instructions on your particular unit.

Another thing is watching on-line porn, be careful with that. Personally I’ve never gotten and STD from Xhamster.com and can recommend them. Some of the porn sites are rife with drive-by viruses and other malware. In a lot of cases, you don’t even have to click on something to get malware.

Speaking of malware, I recommend that you run malwarebytes on a regular basis. Just get the free version, which will scan your browser for malware. When you frequent porn sites, in addition to a blister, you will be often exposed to some type of unwanted software. Be careful on what you click on. If you get a window that you can’t close then press <Ctrl><Alt><Delete> at the same time, which starts the Task Manager. Then click on the browser and right-click then kill the task. That will force the browser to close.

Now if I could just figure out how to stop Rachel from Credit Card Services, life would be good.
